What We Believe

Our Statement of Faith

Sharing the Truth of Christ in Love — the faith once delivered to the saints.

Johnson Baptist Church is a local, independent Baptist church. Below is a summary of our beliefs; this is not an exhaustive statement of our doctrine, and we’re glad to talk further any time you visit.

A Summary of Our Faith

  1. 01

    Scripture

We believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments to be verbally and plenarily inspired Word of God. The Scriptures are inerrant, infallible, and they are the sole authority for faith and life. The sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments are the complete and divine revelation of God to man. We believe the King James Bible to be the preserved Word of God for the English-speaking people.

  2. 02

    The Godhead

We believe in one Triune God existing in God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. All are equal in power and glory. God is the creator of all and created all in six literal days. Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary, who gave His life as a substitutionary atonement for all mankind's sin. Through His death, burial, and resurrection our justification is made sure, and He now sits at the right hand of God as our High Priest and Advocate. The Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment, and indwells and seals all believers.

  3. 03

    Man and Salvation

Man was created in the image of God but Adam fell into sin, and all mankind inherited a sin nature that brought spiritual and physical death, separating man from God. The clear message of salvation is repentance toward God and faith in Jesus Christ — the gift of God brought to man by grace through faith in His only begotten Son, available to all who will personally trust in the virgin birth, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

  4. 04

    The Church

We believe the church is made up of all born-again believers as the espoused bride of Christ. The local church is an assembly of believers, autonomous and free from any external authority or control, as Christ is the head. We recognize water baptism by immersion and the Lord's Supper as the Scriptural ordinances of obedience for the church.

  5. 05

    Marriage and the Family

We believe that the only marriage recognized by Scripture is the joining of one man and one woman, and that God made man and woman distinctly, forbidding any attempt to alter one's God-given gender by any means.

  6. 06

    The Return of Christ

We believe the Lord will call away His church prior to the seven-year tribulation. After the tribulation, Christ will personally return with His saints unto the earth and establish His earthly Messianic Kingdom. We believe in a literal Heaven for those who have been born again, and a literal Hell for those who reject Christ as Saviour.
